Karin Clarke Gallery presents an exhibit titled “Old Work/New Work” by Eugene ceramic artist Allan Kluber, which will be on view from May 31 through July 1. This exhibit marks the return of Kluber on the Eugene art scene, and will feature both his popular colorful porcelain vases and platters from the 1980s, as well as his brand new avant-guard work. This exhibit will be celebrated during the First Friday ArtWalk on June 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m
During the 70s and 80s, Kluber was a prominent ceramic artist and exhibited his work widely. Many will remember his regular shows at Opus V, the hottest contemporary arts and crafts gallery of the time. Kluber was the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Oregon Arts Commission, and taught workshops at prestigious arts venues across the country.
In 1986, Kluber put his career as an artist on hold. “It was not an intention to stop. I just stopped because the work felt complete,” he says about that decision. However, after a trip to Southern Utah last summer, Kluber found inspiration to return to his ceramic work. “I was deeply moved by the evocative rock formations and saw them in terms of what I knew about clay.”
On Saturday, June 3, at 2 p.m., Allan Kluber will give an Artist’s Talk at the Karin Clarke Gallery, discussing his work and artistic process.
Selected 2-dimensional works by gallery artists also will be on view at that time.
